Fellowships and Opportunities

Pitzer students have a number of resources to help them secure and participate in research opportunities both on- and off-campus.  In addition to the resources listed below, students strongly are encouraged to discuss their research interests with faculty members and advisers who can direct them to field-specific opportunities.

Student Research Opportunities

Student Research Opportunities and Funding is available through the Pitzer College Dean of Faculty Office (please contact: dofbudgets@36837a.com, Office of the Dean of Faculty)

  • Faculty-Student Summer Research: Pitzer students receive a stipend to undertake a research assistantship with a Pitzer Faculty member during the summer
  • Katie Lawson Endowed Memorial Award: Helps Pitzer Students, particularly psychology majors, to pursue their social work or community service objectives
  • Research and Awards: provides support to student research projects that are undertaken in connection with an Independent Study or Senior Thesis
  • Conference Travel: Pitzer students who are presenting at an academic conference in collaboration with Pitzer faculty can receive funding to help cover costs.

Keck Science Department Summer Research Program

  • The Department of Natural Sciences offers an extensive summer research program, in which students receive a paid fellowship to work with faculty throughout the Keck Science department. It’s important to complete applications early and they are typically due in early February.

Other Opportunities

National Science Foundation (NSF) – Research Opportunities for Undergraduates (REU)

According to their website, “NSF funds a large number of research opportunities for undergraduate students through its REU Sites program. An REU Site consists of a small group of undergraduates who work in the research programs of the host institution. Each student is associated with a specific research project, where he/she works closely with the faculty and
other researchers. Students are granted stipends and, in many cases, assistance with housing and travel. Undergraduate students supported with NSF funds must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its possessions.”

Pitzer Internship Fund

Pitzer students engage in meaningful summer internship experiences that facilitate career exploration and the development of professional skills and networks. Students apply through an established, committee-based process with applications due around spring break.  Students can apply for the Pitzer Internship Fund to support off-campus research opportunities.  Learn more about the Pitzer Internship Fund
